Those of you who read TBLWrestling.com know that I recently began watching Total Nonstop Action wrestling – otherwise known as TNA. They call themselves the “new face of professional wrestling” and to help set themselves apart from WWE, they have a six-sided ring and have their weekly tapings as well as pay per views all in the same soundstage at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Side note – if WWE has a television contract with NBC Universal, then wouldn’t that mean that the Universal organization has some affiliation with both WWE and TNA? Weird.
This pay per view was awesome. Sure, something is certainly “missing” from it because it was held in the same arena that their weekly tapings are held in, but TNA is working to fix that situation. They are holding their first monthly PPV outside of Universal Studios this coming October. I think it’ll do them some good!
However, that is a minor point against what was a great show that not only saw a completely out of control main event (literally, they were all over the place), but that also saw the TNA debut of Christian Cage. Those of you who are interested in what the former WWE Intercontinental Champion had to say during his TNA debut can flip over to TBLWrestling.com’s quotes section and take a read.
There was one bad part of the pay per view, though. BG James (formerly Road Dogg in WWE) had a really awkward mini-tirade against WWE and Vince McMahon in his backstage interview. In my short time watching TNA, this seems to be a recurring phenomenon. A few weeks ago on TNA Impact, former ECW World Champion Rhino actually started the show with an in-ring promo against the new ECW show and Vince McMahon. There just seems to be frequent references to WWE and how it sucks or how Vince is nuts or whatever and listen – I’m not going to debate any of that stuff. I will, however, say that if I’m watching TNA then I must already be aware that there is a problem in WWE or that I just don’t like what I’m seeing in WWE.
Let me get back on topic before I miss the point of this post. This PPV was fantastic! I’m not going to go through a match-by-match recap of the deal because that’s boring and the PPV is already a few months old. The main points that I want to get across are that the while the overall feel of the show may come up to the standard of a WWE produced show, it’s damn close. TNA, however, completely surpasses WWE in terms of the wrestling that takes place in the ring. They do a phenomenal job of getting the desire and determination of their wrestlers over with the crowd – oh, and speaking of the crowd, they are completely into the show 100%. Anyone who has ever watched a wrestling show with a hot crowd or who has been to an independent show knows that a hot crowd can make a show just like a dead crowd can kill one. The TNA crowd is completely into the product and it comes off very well on screen.
And the X Division is something to see. At the time of this PPV, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles were just a few of the many young up and comers that were a part of the X Division. Folks, the quality of this division is unmatched on RAW, Smackdown!, or the Tuesday show. This is what you want when you buy a wrestling PPV – you want people giving it everything that they’ve got because you’re willing to plunk down the money to buy their show. That’s something that you don’t get in every wrestling promotion…
I give Genesis 2005 a rousing approval. If you can get your hands on a used copy of this DVD (like I did), then spend the money and buy this event. It was well worth the money because, unlike other wrestling pay per views, there’s a strong possibility that I’ll watch this event over and over again!
Good job TNA!

As if all of the crap in Ocean Township wasn’t enough, now they’ve uncovered a pirated CD ring in town. Though it’s not an underage boozefest, the simple act of using one’s eyes brought this situation to light. From the Atlanticville:
Sgt. Tom Burke noticed what he believed to be counterfeit music CDs on display and for sale at the American Way Food Store in the Town Shopping Center on Route 35 and West Park Avenue
So there you have it – when the police in this town actually look at something other than college students, you may actually have some good police work take place! Let’s recap the hilarity that is Ocean Township, shall we?
And these folks are constantly harping on college students who move into the township? Doesn’t a growing drug trade and robbery warrant more police focus than a couple of young adults moving into what have always been “college houses?” You would think so, right?
But this is Ocean Township…where for 8 months out of the year – despite all of the problems listed above – college students are public enemy #1.

Former State Senate President, John O. Bennett III, was appointed as the Keansburg Council’s attorney yesterday.
Senator Bennett was the victim of a smear campaign that cost him his place atop the New Jersey Senate in 2003, but he’s been on the rise since then. In 2005 he was elected (though unopposed) as the Republican State Committeeman for Monmouth County. Though this is a minor party post, it shows that even those who have been unjustly placed out of office by New Jersey’s South Jersey political boss can fight back – and win.
Congratulations to Senator Bennett! This man was one of my professors during the entire smear campaign and he fought valiantly and honestly against all of that bullshit that was thrown against him. I’m glad to see him rebounding. He didn’t deserve what the Democratic political boss did to him, but he does deserve to rise out of the political ash heap.

Those of you that know me know that I’m a freak for Christmas. I just love that time of the year! When I get older, I fully intend to have an entire room in my house dedicated to the celebration of Christmas. Very weird, I know.
I had planned on having a Christmas Party sometime during this week, but I got bogged down in work and my small business and my trip to New Orleans next week and interviewing for the new job, etc. So, I thought that the least I could do was write something about Christmas…and for some reason I thought I would take a look back at my 2006 New Year’s Resolutions.
Let’s see…
One goal was to reach my intended weight goals in my diet. That “hold” that my workout regime was on during the winter months has been prolonged because I absolutely can’t stand my gym. Thank God I start at Gold’s Gym on August 1st! I haven’t really gained any weight since Christmas – but about a week and a half ago I started doing some intense walking around town…so that’s good.
I wanted to go to Church more than just Sunday and I’ve accomplished that. I had a good time during Holy Week in April and I enjoyed going to Church on off days here and there. So I’ve succeeded and dominated that resolution. Next!
Hmmm, achieving financial freedom, eh? Well, I can’t say that I’m financially free (let’s not forget that I’m the poster boy for student loan debt), but I will say that I’m making more money now than ever before and that – with my new job – I’ll begin to make some major headway against paying back those student loans. Financial freedom coming soon? Well, sooner than for most people, I would assume. I’ve made a lifestyle out of frugal living lately so once these bigger paychecks start coming in, I fully intend to devote them to completely paying off my student loans. I’ll beat those bastards…just you watch!
I wanted to work on growing and being successful with my web design business. Accomplished that!
I resolved to do more work in the community development field after I graduated – definitel accomplished that!
And so that’s that! I’m pretty much successful on all of my resolutions so far. The only one that I’m slacking on is getting back into the hardcore workout routine that I was once in and, like I said before, that’s because of my gym sucking and me waiting to get to another gym. Once that happens – I’m set. I guess if I had to make a long-term resolution right now, it would be to achieve one of my pre-weight loss goals of getting into good enough shape to enter an open wrestling tournament (freestyle) and to go out there and see if I have anything left. The plan is to achieve that goal next spring, so we’ll talk more about it around then!
Merry Christmas!
By the way, there’s only about 150 days left until Christmas…you better start shopping!
