On this balmy, sixty degree weather from the Jersey Shore – Merry Christmas to all!
Still the Worst Christmas Song Ever
After listening to countless hours of Sirius XM’s Christmas songs, I have to say that “The Christmas Shoes” by NewSong is still, by far, the absolute worst Christmas song that I’ve ever heard.
How can someone honestly play this song? It’s about a dirt-poor kid who begs the guy in line in front of him for a pair of shoes to give to his mother, WHO (by the way) his father has already said is on her last legs.
Good Lord!
If you hear this song, turn it off immediately! Call the radio station that is playing it and tell them that you can stand that song! This song should be banned!
This IS The Worst Christmas Song Ever!
By far, the worst Christmas song that I’ve ever heard is “The Christmas Shoes” by NewSong. The song is about a little kid who is buying his Mom a new pair of shoes before she dies later on that night.
What the fuck? Are you serious?!?
Someone actually made a song about a little kid buying his Mom shoes before she dies?! Alright, if you’ve heard the song you know it pulls at your heart strings. You know that it’s well-performed and that it has a nice, loving message (I guess).
But let me ask you: Who the hell is going to play this song? It’s bad enough that it’s on the Sirius XM Holiday station, but what is the intended audience for this song? People in a hospital? Hell no! Nobody wants to hear about some woman dying and her son not understanding the whole thing in a hospital.
Are you going to play this at your company Christmas Party? Absolutely not. What about the informal Christmas gathering at your college buddy’s house? Yeah, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and the song about a woman dying and her son being happy that she’s meeting Jesus tonight.
That’s right, folks. One of the song’s lyrics is:
And I want her to look beautiful, If Momma meets Jesus tonight.
How uplifting!!!
So are you going to play this song in your car while you’re driving around doing Christmas shopping? Good Lord no!
When can you play such a depressing song? When you’re sitting in front of the fire at Christmas and you’re alone (again) and you feel like you’ve got nothing left to live for any more. Congratulations, NewSong. You’ve made a Christmas song for manically depressed people who want to shoot themselves!
Black Friday 2006 Review
Sometimes it pays to have a blog of your thoughts. From my Black Friday 2005 Review:
The worst part of the day were the lines at Circuit City. Someone at Circuit City has got to get their act together and NOT have a bunch of high school teenage girls running all five registers in the place. First off, you don’t have enough registers for the crowds – fix that.
Just like last year, the worst part of the day was Circuit City’s lines. However, I didn’t stick around this year when there were dozens of cashiers available at the local Wal-Mart and Target stores. And Best Buy has got a great, fast checkout system even though the line looks deceivingly long. But Circuit City – they ought to be ashamed of themselves. This is almost 2007 and an electronics store that specializes is gizmos and gadgets to make life easier can’t manage to figure out a way to put in a few more registers and NOT have their lines wrapping around the store?
Disgraceful.
The sales today were so-so, nothing really to go crazy about. I got a nice 6-in-1 Remington shaving set at Wal-Mart and a few DVDs at Target and Best Buy. The problem with the DVDs on sale this year is that they were all mostly crappy movies and box sets! When I get back to Monmouth County tonight or tomorrow, I’m going to take a swing around the stores down there and see what they have on sale.
My Mom also got a really great leather jacket for my Dad at an amazing price from JC Penney. I didn’t venture out to the K-Mart or Kohl’s today because the K-Mart was too far and the Kohl’s is guaranteed to have a line that actually does wrap around the store. During our travels this morning, there were no Playstation 3’s or Wii’s to be seen (as expected), though the demos were good to look at.
All in all, this was a decent Black Friday. I saw a lot of people cramming their car trunks full of gifts, which is great. Unlike Black Friday 2004, which was a total bust, this year there were some good deals on some quality items. Now that being said, it’s only 2:20pm my time so I could probably go out for round two tonight!
Happy Thanksgiving
Before the tryptophan-induced sleep overtakes us all, let me say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
With a little bit of football, Black Friday planning, and some family and friends coming over to celebrate, I won’t hold you all up with a long-winded post! Have a good one!
