Just like anyone else, I’m upset and frustrated that former Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education Bret Schundler lied to Governor Chris Christie about the mistake that his office allowed in our Race to the Top application. But some of the trashy, really low-brow rhetoric coming from the New Jersey Democrats about this issue is just jaw-droppingly stupid.
For example, Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), also the state Democratic Chairman, made a comment that is by far the dumbest comment made in all of New Jersey this year. Here it is for your reading bafflement:
“Instead we’re left to watch New York and Delaware qualify for nearly $1 billion in Race to the Top funding for their children. So far in his short tenure as governor, Christie’s desire to boost his national Republican party credentials has cost New Jersey the only African American on the New Jersey Supreme Court, funding for critical women’s health services and now $400 million for our children. What will Christie’s national Republican political strategy cost New Jersey next?”
Really? REALLY you dummy? First of all, Delaware didn’t win any money in this round of the Race to the Top, the District of Columbia did. Moron. Second, Christie is constantly saying that he has no desire for a higher position in the Republican party and that he is completely focused on New Jersey. Could he be bluffing? Sure – anyone can be bluffing at any time. However, we have to take people at face value and the sheer repetition of Christie saying that he’s NOT running or aspiring for a higher office definitely counts for something.
And if we’re taking people at face value, then Wisniewski is clearly the dumbest person in the Garden State and the one trying to spin this situation for the most political points. I hope that the rest of my fellow New Jerseyans are still living in reality and that they laugh this idiot’s comments away.
Look, the NJDOE screwed up big time in the Race to the Top application. Heads should have rolled and they did. Let’s learn from the situation and move on already. Good grief!
