Since Thursday night I’ve been battling the effects of food poisoning. You know how this works – vomiting, nausea, digestive tract malfunctions, headaches, chills/shivers, low-grade fever, general weakness, etc. It’s been torture. And it’s because of Baja Fresh!
I haven’t had Baja Fresh in a few weeks and I needed a quick fix for dinner on Thursday night before I had to jump on a conference call. Seemed like an easy decision – I’d get my standard: nachos and a nacho burrito (no jalapenos). Well, the joke was on me because as soon as I was done eating this stuff, I immediately felt sick. In fact, I had to watch the tail end of the Vice Presidential debate while laying in bed because I felt so nauseous. I wound up passing out around 10:30pm – as soon as the debate ended – and I jumped out of bed at 12:30am for the first of six, long trips to my bathroom to dispel the Baja Fresh from my body.
At about 4:30am, I wound up passing out until 7:30am, when I woke up to go to a conference for work. Talk about the walking dead – I was a mess! I was pale, dizzy, and completely disoriented for most of the morning. In fact, I left the conference early so I could go home and take a nap. I woke up around 8:30pm and one of my roommates offered me some Gatorade, which helped to replenish my fluids (and electrolytes!). I only ate three, small dinner rolls on Friday and some Excedrin, if you count that as sustenance.
I felt a little bit better yesterday as the fever subsided and the nauseous feeling went away. I also ate more solid foods including a bagel with egg, rice and bean soup, and chicken noodle soup (picked up by my other roommate). I also ate a cup of fruit, which was really good.
Today I feel much better, though my body is still sore from the vomiting. At least my head isn’t spinning any more and I’m not constantly running into the bathroom! I’ll probably pop in a few more Excedrin Back and Body aspirin so I can get over some of this body pain. Also, I finished a big bottle of Gatorade yesterday so I might have to go out and get another one.
The morals of the story are 1) I’m never going back to Baja Fresh again and 2) there’s something creepy about cheap, Americanized Mexican food. The last time I had Taco Bell was about four years ago and the reason I stopped eating it was because I had a bad reaction to it one night. Granted, I don’t eat fast food any more and I haven’t had stuff like McDonald’s or Burger King in seven or more years now so I don’t have a proper frame of reference. I do know, however, that when I eat food that I make in my kitchen or that I watch prepared for me in a deli – I’m fine. Yet another reason to leave the crap food behind and move on to whole foods.

Oh god me too. I just had it yesterday and as soon as I finished I began feeling nauseas. I had the steak tacos and guacamole. It start with the joint pain, then fever, the vomitting and dia. Never again. I went back to my office for about 20 minutes before I couldnt take it anymore. i went home and laid in bed for 5 hours with the chills. I took nyquil to fall asleep and tried chicken soup and threw that up as well. Finally this morning I had bisuits and tea and I was able to hold it down. My stomach is still growling and my fever is still up but i am holding food down and that is good. BAJA FRESH is now on my Sh*t list.

Hang in there, man! Baja Fresh absolutely destroyed me and it lasted longer than the typical 24 – 36 hours. They got me GOOD. I don’t think that I put it in my post, but I had to go to a conference for work the day after the poisoning hit – talk about not being in good health!
Get some rest, relax, and drink some Gatorade when your stomach is up for it. Good luck!

Hey, I took a bite of a bajafresh chicken burrito and was overwhelmed the the taste of raw shrimp – I swallowed one piece and I hope I don’t get sick. I’m saving the evidence though just in case.
I just looked up “BajaFresh food poisoning” on google and caught this page
BajaFresh at 2210 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles CA.

Well, this is a top listing for “food poisoning baja fresh” in google, so..
I called my doctor, he said their was nothing he could do till I get sick, since they do not know which micro organism to treat for – he won’t give me a broad spectrum anti-biotic.
Well, I’m drinking lots of water and Gater-Aid now, since if I get sick, I won’t be battling dehydration or electrolyte issues too badly.
syrup of ipecac is a emetic (vomit inducer), but is unavailable in most pharmacies in California, with all the bulimics here and all, but it might be in your state. Might be good to keep in your first-aid kit for other poisoning issues.

Wanted to find out which location the top poster went to (Joe). I had the exact same thing happen over the weekend. Ate at Baja Fresh on 46th and Lex. Steak tacos. Terrible vomiting and fever that night. Will report this place – never had issues at BF in California.

Hey Lew,
I went to the Baja Fresh in Ocean Township, New Jersey on Route 66. Maybe it’s an East Coast thing? I hope you’re feeling better.
Best,
Joe

I don’t know anything about Baja Fresh but thru this comment list and the ” Undercover Boss ” show being shown tonite …. I would give a restaurant a second chance to prove they are a good restaurant, but if I got it Sick a second time at a restaurant — I would find a Website to Show My Dismay at Any Restaurant. My general unhappiness right now is with Kentucky Fried Chicken and the fact that their price boards inside the store make me think I am Not at a restaurant but a Box Lunch Warehouse with all their prices being $5.00 or more… and it’s not an appealling restaurant to go into.

A letter to the Beverly Hills Baja (not so) Fresh: First, I want to thank you for giving me the most horrible, debilitating food poisoning I’ve ever experienced. I spent 2 days in my bathroom and bed. Sometimes the bathroom was my bed. Sometimes I was so delerious I couldn’t tell where I was. But what I really must thank you for is showing me the error of my ways. You see, I’ve always been led to believe that hard work, healthy food and exercise was the best way to lose weight and stay in shape. How could I have been so stupid? Why didn’t I know that all I had to do was eat some crappy poisonous food and I could lose weight without ever feeling hungry at all? Think of all the money I’ve wasted buying healthy food at the market. I could have saved that money and paid for some plastic surgery so I could look like every other skeletal middle-aged Beverly Hills woman out here. I mean with the weight I’ve already lost from eating at Baja Fresh I’m already halfway there. I’ve been wanting to lose those extra 5 pesky pounds from my 108 pound frame. Who knew it could be this quick and easy? So again I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the hardworking men and women at Baja Fresh who’ve showed me a new way to live. But from now on the next time I feel like having fast food (which may be never again) I’m going to Chik-Fil-A.
