Over the last week, I’ve been researching new cars – I think it’s about time that I get a new one. My current 1999 Chevy Blazer has served me well for over five years now, but it’s breaking down slowly. I’ve spent some $6,000 keeping the truck on the road this year alone.
I’ve been looking at the Equinox from Chevrolet, so if anyone knows anything about that vehicle, please let me know. At first, I was convinced that I would get a hybrid, but the added cost for a hybrid is beyond my pay grade! My price range is somewhere between $20,000 and $25,000. Sure, I could afford much more, but I don’t think that a vehicle should cost you any more than that…I’m not in it for the luxury or the style, I’m in it to get from Point A to Point B!
That being said, I’m looking forward to enjoying some modern features in whatever new vehicle that I purchase. For instance, I’d like to be able to play my iPod as well as have a navigation system – maybe even heated seats! I’m also looking forward to having a high-quality audio system in the car, which I’ve never really had before.
Anyway – any one have any ideas? I’m looking for an affordable SUV with decent gas mileage (something better than the 17 miles per gallon that I get now)!
Metroplexual says
Why an SUV? My wife has a Subaru Forester and on the highway it gets 27 MPG. It is spacious enough for me at 6’4″ 230 lbs.
If the SUV can be skipped, believe it or not a vw beetle is a very spacious vehicle for bigger people. Otherwise check out the ford 500/taurus for 2008 in all wheel drive.
Joe says
I’m considerably heavier than you are – someone of my size feels like a sardine in a can in a car!
I am also looking at the HHR from Chevy, though, which is part SUV, part car, and part station wagon (though no one will admit that!).
Metroplexual says
Seriously, check out the 500 it is incredibly roomy. If you opt for non-suv you can easily fit in a Bug.
Marty says
The Toyota Yaris has been an excellent car for my father who often drives through Chicago and the surrounding suburbs while making sales calls. He usually averages 37 miles to the gallon, with a few 40 miles on occasion.
Joe says
Ooh, I don’t think I’ll be fitting in a Yaris, either!
One of my co-workers has an Aveo and it’s a little bit snug for me to get in and out of that thing. Nice car, drives well, but again – the whole sardine thing!
Dave says
Get yourself a big Truck. there nice and roomy for big guys like us.
Dave says
or you can get the Smart car 1700 pounds, 8.8 feet long, and slightly wider and taller than 5 feet, the Smart car is already one of the smallest cars on any road in any country.
Joe says
Not happening!
Eddie T. says
Stay away from American vehicles.
Joe says
A few people have advised me against the American-made machines. However, I’ve got a thing for Chevy – I like them. Fords, on the other hand, I’m not the biggest fan of. There would have to be one hell of a deal at the dealership to get me to buy another Ford…

Hey Joe,
Check this out, I am a new salesman for Capital Chysler Jeep Dodge in Garner. I just started a couple weeks ago and thought I might be able to help you. I have a load of SUVs that fit your needs. We are throwing a tailgate party on Saturday the 10th for the NCSU vs UNC Game. Free food and if you’d like we can take a look around the lot to see if there is something you would be interested in. Call me and let me know… 919.649.0973

Joey,
I’d love to be in attendance, but I don’t think I’ll be able to make it down to North Carolina.
Thanks for the offer, though.
Joey Amor says
Hey it was worth a shot right.
Joe says
Absolutely worth a shot – impressive, actually.
Good luck.
