As you’ll see in my 2007 resolutions, I’m going to take a tough stance against my student loans in the coming year. The fact is that I’m financially bedrocked when it comes to these loans. I can’t buy a house, I can’t move into an upper scale apartment or condo, I can’t get a new car, I can’t go back to school…
It’s a ton of bullshit, quite frankly. I make really good money at my job – and because it took a Master’s Degree to get this job, I’m supposed to be immobile and living a poor lifestyle because of student loans? Bullshit on that!
So, since I am the poster child for student loan debt, I feel that I have some responsibility to at least make a stand against these loans. No, I’m not throwing myself into the policy arena about this issue and no, I’m not going to go cry poverty to some person who I think will be able to pay off these loans for me. I’m going to do what any good American is born and raised to do – I’m going to focus a lot of hardwork and effort at paying off these loans.
For anyone else out there with $100,000+ of student loan debt, I suggest you do the same thing. I’m going to stop paying the minimums on one loan at a time and begin to overpay it. I’ve already started this with my smallest loan, the CitiAssist Graduate Loan. I project to have this loan paid off by the summer.
Honestly, these things aren’t going to pay themselves off so let’s get to it!
