Congratulations are in order for the outgoing Township Committee in Neptune Township, NJ. Over the last few years this committee has enacted one of the broadest redevelopment campaigns in the state. Focusing on a “Gateways to Neptune” approach, they are hitting areas of the town that have been neglected by both political parties over the last few decades.
That’s decades, folks. Not years or months – decades.
This all began with their West Lake Avenue Revitalization Project. Since then, they’ve begun planning a Municipal Marina in the Shark River Hills section of town and a community-based housing development in the Midtown area on Ridge Avenue.
For someone like me who works in the community-based field and who studies community-based development projects, this is truly amazing. For a small suburban town like Neptune to enact so many projects that are rooted in the community’s wants and (more importantly) their needs is unheard of in New Jersey redevelopment, let alone in redevelopment anywhere.
Kudos to the Neptune Township Committee for making real strides towards helping the people of Neptune Township move forward.
