In what should come as no surprise to anyone, the Democrats beat the pants off of the Republicans in yesterday’s elections. As I posted a few days ago, the Republicans have not delivered on many of their promises since being elected, so they got tossed left and right last night.
Honestly, though, I’m not really concerned about the national elections too much any more because the truth is that no matter who is in Washington DC, the prospects of you or I feeling any of their impacts are slim to none. Now, on the local level – New Jersey has some problems!
What bothered me the most in New Jersey’s Senatorial race was the fact that it was not Tom Kean, Jr. versus Robert Menendez. It was a referendum on George W. Bush. There were signs all over Newark that literally said, “STOP BUSH, Vote November 7th!”
Last I checked, Bush wasn’t on the ballot in New Jersey, though maybe he was up in Newark or down in Camden, two areas of New Jersey dominated by political power bosses. Oh, to those of you in the rest of the nation, yes, New Jersey still has 1800-style political bosses. We’re sweet in NJ!
But again, the Senate job is a national post that will have little effect on my life (which I could be wrong about, but I believe anyway). I’m more concerned about the local election results in Monmouth County. Especially in a place like Neptune Township, where 2 Republicans were booted from office by 2 political newcomers who based their entire campaign on “We’re against eminent domain.”
Huh? Ummm, ok. So is the rest of the nation!
But again, you have an uninformed electorate who voted on one particular issue and now two people who have a wealth of political experience are out of office come January.
I wish people would vote for the man or woman and not the party.
