Last night I watched Batman Begins for the first time (though I’ve owned the DVD for almost a year). I was very impressed – I thought it was a great movie. In terms of the story, Batman Begins is supposed to take place before all of the other Batman movies (and is supposed to begin a second telling of these movies). The darkness of Batman’s training and the dedication of bringing fear into the feared of Gotham was displayed very well by the director and actors. Excellent job on all accounts.
Unless I’m forgetting something, I do not recall a final fate for the crime boss (Falcone), though. But that’s ok. Scarecrow’s defeat and the seeming destruction of the League of Shadows was a good end for the movie. I also really liked the creation of the bat cave and the interplay between Alfred and the young Bruce Wayne.
Morgan Freeman was an excellent choice for his role as was Rutger Hauer. Both played their parts to the “t.” Great job. I wasn’t a major fan of Katie Holmes’ acting because some of it seemed forced, but that may be a function of her not being that great of an actress. Someone who gave a great acting performance was Gary Oldman as Officer Gordon – almost perfect.
I highly recommend this movie, even though I’m about a year and a half behind the curve on supporting it!
